Gender Diversity and its Societal Place in Medieval Scandinavia

Medieval Scandinavian literature held a trope that bent the gendered actions and presentations of its characters, which in turn changed their social standing within stories: more masculine action or presentation, higher individual ascended. Furthermore, homophobia transphobia have been prevalent academia for decades, has resulted overlook queer characters medieval literature. Countering these historic attitudes, this paper finds evidence possible gender diversity deviation life both literary archaeological evidence. This preliminary study inspects Poetic Prose Eddas, selected Icelandic Family Sagas, burials deemed diversionary from expectations. I find there was, fact, sources and, by extension, everyday Scandinavia.
